Two mico-cabins rise above the trees on the North Shore of Minnesota capturing views and creating a signature wilderness experience.

Caribou Lake is one of Minnesota’s cleanest and most pristine lakes in the state. The unique topography rises 1800 feet from the bluff line edge to the undulating shores of the winding lake. Sitting on this 2.3-acre wooded site, two black cabins blend into their surrounding while capturing views to both the lake and distant dark horizons of Lake Superior.

The twin cabins sit on tiny footprints and rise vertically creating a treehouse experience. Designed for AirBnB rentals, visitors are greeted by two micro-tower homes situated amongst natural outcroppings of fractured basalt and hardwood sugar maple forest. Each unit is composed of a lower-level entry and is organized around an open modernist wood staircase. Warm sunlight and views lead guests from the ground plan all the way to a third-floor roof deck with expansive views to some of Minnesota’s best natural vistas.

The vertical cabins nestle into the slopes of the rolling landscape and offer unique exterior amenities situated in the treetops of rolling hardwood forests.
The small cabins offer three unique exterior spaces, one on each level creating a sense of connection to the natural beauty of Caribou Lake.
Guest can step out onto an elevated deck complete with either sauna or hot tub. Each cabin becomes a rustic spa in the woods, offering the perfect retreat for all seasons.
Utilizing prefabricated concrete panels and two modular volumes the cabin system can be used in remote areas where typical modern construction is not possible.
The second level creates a rhythm of native wood walls and clean white build-ins. An open plan makes the 500 square-foot level feel expansive and integrated into nature.
A stacked rustic modern wood staircase organizes the space and leads guests to spectacular views.
A simple Jotul stove warms the house in the coldest of seasons, while floor to ceiling glass creates a treehouse like experience.
Bedrooms are simple, but warm giving guests options for sleeping. Each cabin accommodates smaller groups, or both units work together for a larger family get away
The cabin frames views back to nature in every room. These meticulously designed retreats provide the ideal escape from the City and jumping off point to hiking, skiing, and kayaking on the North Shore of Minnesota.
The best view to both lakes occurs at the top of the roof deck. Visitors can enjoy a coffee and 360 degree views of the amazing landscape. Exterior structure becomes as important as the interior spaces on these tiny modern homes.
